It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to create her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort can be debated.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was removed Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
